A Play in Development
Written and Directed by Pulitzer Prize Finalist David Feldshuh
Starring Emmy and Tony-Nominated Tovah Feldshuh (The Walking Dead, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Golda’s Balcony)
Politics, sports, Fake News, and the truth take center stage in this riveting dramatic comedy based on actual events. In the years preceding World War II, an unusual friendship between American boxing champion, Joe Lewis, and German boxing great, Max Schmeling, and wise-guy strategist and boxing manager Joe “Yussel the Muscle” Jacobs (played by Tovah), starts to develop. In order to preserve their special friendship, they must confront the lies of Joseph Goebbels (Hitler’s Minister of Propaganda) in a whirling 90-minute adventure.
With original cast members from the show’s Minneapolis world premiere as well as a new ensemble member flying in from Germany, Theatre Or is only the second theatre company to host a presentation of this new play as it journeys to New York. Although the actors will refer to scripts, there will be an aura of performance with the addition of select set, sound, lighting, and costume elements. Plus, internationally acclaimed actress Tovah sings during the performance! Featuring brand-new scenes for which the play’s creative team requires viewer feedback, this is an exciting opportunity for Denver audiences to participate in the development of a new play.
